Creation of Self
We all have the power to transform ourselves and become who we are destined to be...
The pattern of our lives is hugely determined by our self-concept, or in other words- how we see ourselves. Not only in a physical sense, but also regarding our strengths and weaknesses, personality and behaviour, and maybe even likes and dislikes. Throughout life from childhood to adulthood we have been collecting information about ourselves, whether it is from family members, teachers, successes, failures or even our reflection in the mirror; overtime it all adds up. For most of us it is a variety of good things and bad things. Things that we are proud of and things that we wish we could change. And much of the time in this three dimensional world, we are taught that there isn’t much we can change about ourselves, that we are what we are and that is that… but is that always true?
I would say absolutely not. In most cases we can change a lot about ourselves simply by understanding that our lives are a creative endeavour, and much of what and who we are or can become is part of that. So many of us have been hindered far too long by the limiting beliefs that surround us. We talk ourselves out of applying for that job, or wearing that outfit, or starting that project. We have been conditioned to worry about what other people will say, and fear failure, so much so that we rarely do anything out of our comfort zone.
But life is for living and if we are able to identify, work through and break through whatever limiting beliefs that are holding us back we can become the person that we know we are inside. We can raise our head up high and realise that we are worthy of all our dreams and more than capable to put in whatever work is needed in order to realise them.
I mentioned in my last post that we all have free will when it comes to choosing our words, thoughts, visions and behaviours. To me, this is the perfect starting point when wanting to override and replace old (and unhealthy) thought patterns. It all starts with changing how we think, what we say and how we talk to ourselves, for if we are going to make any headway we cannot be putting ourselves down, nor anyone else. Negative assumptions bring negative energy which will never bring our ideals to life.
So, we have to start by training our mind to think in a more positive and uplifting direction. When we daydream and imagine, we must catch ourselves whenever the picture is negative and immediately change tact and imagine the positive reversal of whatever we were focused on before. When we think or talk to ourselves, we must aim to think of all the good things that could happen, rather than focus on the bad. If you find this difficult at first, follow Florence Scovel Shinn’s method of teaching which is to take an affirmation and repeat it to yourself over and over again in your mind, during any times that you feel plagued by negative thinking. We can’t always control how we feel, but we can control the direction of our thoughts, and often with the right affirmation, we can bring ourselves back to a positive feeling state.
Although the creation of self must start internally (since all great changes must be backed by a certain amount of feeling and belief), this does not mean that we cannot take some actions to help us align with our desires. In many ways, we are our own blank canvas, therefore we can start to change how we dress and style ourselves. We can think about our daily habits- what do we eat, how do we treat other people, how do we spend our time? We can adjust our surroundings, through personalising our home. We can spend more time on self-care and self-development; anything that make us feel good and puts us in a high vibration, or makes us feel closer to who we are becoming.
Through taking action in the physical world, while we are working on our internal world, we can help ourselves feel that we are bringing a sense of alignment between the two. It is not about forcing anything at all- that is the complete opposite of what you want to do- but gently doing what it is that you can do to become your ideal version of yourself, as you watch the rest of it unfold naturally…
