Often when we desire something, be it an object, opportunity, or circumstance, we can do one of two things:
We can focus all our efforts into thinking about this thing, analysing how or when we could possibly achieve it, wearing ourselves out in the process.
We can put it on such a pedestal that we begin to believe that it is much too good for us, and essentially convince ourselves of all the reasons it wouldn’t be possible.
Neither state of being is particularly fruitful when it comes to attracting our desires, and yet it seems that as humans, when we want something, we go into overdrive which can often create a flow of conflicting energy that goes against what it is we are trying to attract.
Instead, it is important to realise that attracting the desires that we do want is no different to attracting the things in life that we don’t want, or are indifferent to. It is the same process that is happening, we just put more stress over the things that we do want, and maybe are a little careless with the direction of our thoughts and beliefs when it comes to the situations we don’t want. We are always attracting something, and so once we understand this fact we can learn, through harnessing the faculties of our mind, how to become master of our fate, rather than the victim.
Part of this process is to learn to expect good things to happen. So often I come across people who, within one conversation, frequently express their desires and then immediately block them by saying something like:
“That’s quite unlikely, though, isn’t it?”
“I won’t hold my breath.”
“If only…”
People are too afraid to commit to what it is that they want, even only through the words they say. And if they cannot commit to it verbally, I can only assume that their mental activity isn’t all that different either.
We have to learn to expect our good. To understand that each and every one of us deserves good things to happen to us. When we think of something that we want, we should feel calm and joyous that we have come across yet another thing that we are excited to experience. We should use our minds to focus on all the reasons we can have whatever it is. We should imagine ourselves experiencing it, affirm its place in our reality, and plan for it.
Yes, plan for it. When we make plans, we are encouraging our minds to think from a place of already having what it is that we desire. Through planning for something, we are essentially preparing for, believing in it, and making a space for it in our lives. We remove any resistance from our minds and instead remain cheerfully expectant, knowing that our good is on its way, without us having to stress, worry, or doubt.
